Tucked away in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Burke County is located 68 miles northwest of Charlotte, 213 miles northwest of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and 60 miles east of Asheville along Interstate 40.
The area offers extensive natural beauty and mild climate where mountains meet waterways and people rarely meet a stranger.
Don't get us wrong. Burke County is far from being rural. Visitors who travel to the area fall under the spell of conveniences and amenities the county offers, from thriving downtowns to shopping centers, restaurants and art galleries.
While the people appreciate the county's deep sense of history, we don't live in the past.
